How to Move Tools and Small Machinery, Greasy Things

How to move tools and small machinery

How to move tools

Tools should be kept in tool boxes or if none are available, box them in small boxes because they are so heavy. Whenever you are carrying tools, use proper lifting techniques because back injuries can easily occur when carrying a toolbox in one hand. If you twist your body while carrying it or reaching to put it on a shelf, vertebrae have been known to pop out badly.

How to move small machinery

Small lathes, drill presses, table saws and the like, may need to be moved. These kinds of machinery are usually top heavy so you need to carry them with 2, 3 or 4 people in order to easily carry them upright.

First clean them well so that leftover scrap is off of them and won’t get on other furnishings. Sometimes you may need to make an extra trip just for these things and accompanying big materials like lumber or scrap metal. They can also be plastic-wrapped to keep their residue with them and not get it onto the truck.

Household machines such as floor care machines or sewing machines or small appliances should all be padded and, if possible, boxed. Below is a picture sequence showing the advantage of padding an upright rug vacuum with all of its components so that none get lost.

Now that makes a neat and tidy bundle out of a potential problematic item, doesn’t it?

How to move greasy things

Greasy items like car engines, mechanical parts or dirty tools need to be cleaned up as much as possible and placed onto cardboard or plastic runners on the truck and somehow tied off or blocked off so that they won’t come off the plastic/cardboard and mess up the truck.

You can even buy cheap mover’s warehouse pads and wrap them up to transport them (then just dispose of the dirty or greasy pad when you are done). All of these kinds of things should definitely be last-trip items kept away from the normal household goods so as not to dirty them.

Packing and moving tools and small machinery requires expert packing skills due to the special nature of those items. Keep things safe and tidy by requesting professional packing services.
