How to Safely Pack and Move Chandeliers & Wall Sconces

Because of the inherent dangers involved when doing any electrical work and the liability it entails, it’s best to have it done by a local licensed electrician – even when it comes to simple stuff like disassembling light fixtures or fans from walls or ceilings.

Once the chandeliers and sconces are disconnected and removed from the walls/ceiling, they can be padded and boxed for transport.

You can simply hold a chandelier over a pad, lift the pad up over it and tape it shut at the top.

ou can also plastic wrap the entire chandelier or place it in a strong plastic bag so that none of its parts get lost during the move. The plastic covering, however, won’t provide any protection to the delicate light fixture, so you need to also place the wrapped chandelier or sconce in a box, using crushed paper or bubble wrap to protect them.

Chandeliers may also need to be hung on a bar inside a box – many times movers will hang a more slender chandelier on the hanger bar inside a wardrobe box.

Very valuable chandeliers (antiques, family heirlooms, expensive crystal pieces, etc.) can be custom crated for maximum protection.
