Beds are large and heavy, so they need to be taken apart for moving.
Packing Headboards, Footboards, Rails, Casters, and Hardware
Thoroughly pad the headboard and the footboard and the rail boards (if any) to protect them from scratches.

Lay the headboard face down centered on one or two pads.

Fold the pads over until it’s fully covered.

Tape the pads to keep them in place during moving.

Put the wrapped headboards and footboards on their sides along the walls of the moving truck or against other large furniture pieces. Secure them with ropes or bungee straps or place other sturdy items in front of them to prevent the headboards/footboards from slipping or tilting during transportation.

When moving beds it’s very important to carefully save all hardware as you disassemble the bed, so that it doesn’t get lost. Pay special attention to the casters because they can drop off of the rails as they’re being moved. Sometimes you may even need to pad the bedrails and casters just so the casters don’t get lost.
Moving Waterbeds and Platform Beds
Waterbeds and platform beds need to be disassembled to become easier and safer to move.
Be sure to empty all water from the waterbed’s mattress to make it as light as possible. Then fold it up and strap it for carrying.
If the waterbed’s old mattress is showing excessive signs of wear and tear or is somehow damaged, it’s not worth moving to your new home – just empty it and dispose of it.
Moving Electrified Headboards
Electrified headboards usually need a trained technician to disassemble and reassemble them. If you want to dismantle your electrified headboard yourself, it’s best to attempt to complete the task well before moving day. That way if you do run into trouble, you’ll have some time to get a service person in to solve the problem.
All in all, beds are better left to the professionals – the experts have the specialized equipment and technical know-how to disassemble, pack, transport, and reassemble your furniture in the safest and most efficient way possible.
